about

Written by Stephen Godsall, featuring Anita Somner flute and Ian Ellis tenor saxophone. Pictures by Angela Neild.
I enjoyed living on the edge of the West Pennine moors for some years and have teamed up with landscape photographer Angela Neild for this film. It's a really interesting and beautiful area north of Bolton, full of industrial archaeology including lead mines, dozens of ruined mills and hundreds of ruined farms. The moors are more colourful, less bleak and boggy than the central Pennines. Place names are resonant too, from "Oswaldtwistle" (locally pronounced "Ozzeltwizzel") to Ramsbottom (locally pronounced "Sheeps arse")
"Breakdown" is a musical form most common in bluegrass music which features a series of breaks played by different instruments.
