"The must be something more than jazz" he said "We need a way to make it pay" It's not enough just to get in the groove and to blow up a firestorm And it's too late just to syncopate over rhythm and warm chords 'Cos the market's moved on - it's long gone Yesterday's news, yesterday's blues, that's history The market rules the world they say but the market is unruly It grows then it blows like a bubble, and it robs you cruelly But maybe there is something more than jazz Who knows what lies beyond the curve? It's not enough just to change the world and to swing like a bar-room door And fusion is fine but people don't have time to listen any more Just keep it simple! One liners Sentences short, no trains of thought, just soundbites Maybe Miles and Coltrane could make it pay these days? We just need to show that health is improved by an infectious groove Maybe some people will start to get tired of that mindless jive? Maybe things will swing our way. Or maybe jazz is infinite and changeable? Let's just play and the mystery could unfold........

Mental 05:10
He had some strange ideas, he whispered in my ears "It's not just physical it's mental too; the body may be weak but let my spirit speak, because I can't think straight so close to you" They used to use the words "quite insane" Then they confused the heart with the brain So if you're feeling tense and things stop making sense It's not just physical it's mental too. I'm in a mood, it's not the mood for love How do I feel? Hey, I could squeal! No guarantee I'm saying what I think It's written on my heart in disappearing ink Don't get the wrong idea if I should disappear My body may be here, just not my mind You may feel so damned sure that have found the cure But still the mystery stays behind For there are no fine lines, no navigation signs Between the ghostly mind, flesh and blood Don't miss the warning signs, the shivers down your spine Because the physical is mental too

Used to be a singer but I lost my voice Used to have the drive, used to have the choice Used to be a lover now I see no-one Used to be with you but now you've gone Used to be a dreamer now it's hard to sleep Used to climb those mountains now they seem too steep Used to chase the sun now I seek the shade Used to be a singer now I fade From my new perspective there's not much to lose If I start again I could be anything I choose There's an open window after all Leading out - to who knows where? Used to be a poet, now there's no reason or rhyme Used to play to win, now I just play for time But sometimes I can see a new world, I can feel a change Staying where I am would be too strange

It's the best place, the best time - but will you make the move? It's got to be the best time, the best place we're ever gonna get to There is good luck and bad luck, and chances you must take Be sure that if you don't risk it sometimes You bet your life for low stakes You've been searching for this A long time - seen it coming Don't stop, holding back we'll just drift apart, just don't start! It's a sharp shock, a space dock, a crisis we can use 'Cos you must never look down or back down Just catch that wave and ride it.

Fuzzy Logic 04:58
Syncopation, happy but sad Major but minor, sometimes good can be so bad Sweet but sour too, so tight but so loose Fuzzy logic - the fuzzy logic of the blues Voice of oppression, white men can't play A deal with the Devil when all hope has slipped away Git it in your soul, let the bad times roll Contradictions, fuzzy logic and the blues You can alter them, bury them, somehow they still show through Smash them, dissect them, grind them under your shoes Acoustic, electric, country or town They're picking you up, stitching you up, bringing you down Funky logic teases and flirts Hustles and shuffles - you're still laughing though it hurts No win and no fee, but the blues break free That's the magic, that's the logic of the blues

Wild Weekend 03:34
I packed up my new bag and I'm heading out For a wild weekend, a wild weekend I need some time and space away from here And even better with a friend, um yeah There's a place off the map we can hear the river flow Cross the moor, climb the hills, see the world spread out below The clouds are lifting - please let me change your mood Let's take some chances, when you're with me life feels so good Let's head up the West coast as the sun goes down For a wild weekend, a wild weekend And later we can see the stars and let things drift No need to pretend on a wild weekend We don't need GPS, we won't dress to impress Let's forget the safety net - who needs to be rescued? Looking for another sort of rhythm in my life just break out Let's drift away for a wild weekend
