about

A song about singing, dreaming, love and loss. It's about me too, about how sometimes we don't have the self belief to do the things we'd love to. And about all the artists and others who've suffered mental health problems. Written and played by Stephen Godsall with Alison Baverstock vocals, Angharad Miller trumpet, Sarah Bolter flute, alto sax, clarinet and bass clarinet.

lyrics

Used to be a singer but I lost my voice
Used to have the drive, used to have the choice
Used to be a lover now I see no-one
Used to be with you but now you've gone

Used to be a dreamer now it's hard to sleep
Used to climb those mountains now they seem too steep
Used to chase the sun now I seek the shade
Used to be a singer now I fade

From my new perspective there's not much to lose
If I start again I could be anything I choose
There's an open window after all
Leading out - to who knows where?

Used to be a poet, now there's no reason or rhyme
Used to play to win, now I just play for time
But sometimes I can see a new world, I can feel a change
Staying where I am would be too strange
