about
A song exploring the contradictions of the blues; the tensions between "blue" notes, the role of the whimsical loser, the rebellious muse of the Mississippi delta. We push the envelope with jazz harmonies and a middle section built around shameless modulations. It evolved as I recorded the organ part first, then the drums. Alison Baverstock showcases her range, warm tone and subtle swing.
Ian Ellis adds his signature inventive sax, first in call and response with my guitar then a soaring solo.
lyrics
Syncopation, happy but sad
Major but minor, sometimes good can be so bad
Sweet but sour too, so tight but so loose
Fuzzy logic - the fuzzy logic of the blues
Voice of oppression, white men can't play
A deal with the Devil when all hope has slipped away
Git it in your soul, let the bad times roll
Contradictions, fuzzy logic and the blues
You can alter them, bury them, somehow they still show through
Smash them, dissect them, grind them under your shoes
Acoustic, electric, country or town
They're picking you up, stitching you up, bringing you down
Funky logic teases and flirts
Hustles and shuffles - you're still laughing though it hurts
No win and no fee, but the blues break free
That's the magic, that's the logic of the blues
Sara Colman's arrangement's of Joni Mitchell songs are inspired - great band too with Sara's vocals, Rebecca Nash piano and inventive flugelhorn from Percy Pursglove stephen godsall
